Overview of Writing Practice Test

Purpose:
To simulate the Writing section of the IELTS test under real test conditions.

Components:
Includes both Task 1 and Task 2.

Timing:
20 minutes for Task 1 and 40 minutes for Task 2.

Writing Task 1

Academic and General

Academic:
Describe, summarize, or explain information presented in a graph, chart, table, or diagram.

General:
Write a letter in response to a given situation, which can be formal, semi-formal, or informal.

Instructions

1. Write at least 150 words.

2. Organize your response clearly, focusing on key trends and comparisons (Academic) or addressing all parts of the task (General).

Sample Task 1 Question:

Academic:
Describe the changes in the number of international students in a country over a 5-year period based on the provided line graph.

The chart below shows the number of international students enrolled in four different courses at a university from 2010 to 2015.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

General:
Write a letter to a friend inviting them to visit your new home. Include details about the location, the best time to visit, and any activities planned during the visit.

Writing Task 2

Essay Writing

Write an essay in response to a point of view, argument, or problem.

Timing:
60 minutes.

Types of Questions:
Multiple choice, true/false/not given, matching headings, and sentence completion.

Instructions

1. Write at least 250 words.

2. Present a clear position, provide relevant examples, and structure your essay with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Sample Task 2 Question

Some people believe that online learning is more effective than traditional classroom learning. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Provide reasons for your answer and include relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
