Expressing Preferences with Gerunds and Infinitives

Gerunds:
Use after verbs like enjoy ◦ like ◦ love
I enjoy watching movies.

Infinitives:
Use after verbs like prefer ◦ choose ◦ want
I prefer to go to the cinema.

Usage:

Some verbs allow both gerunds and infinitives with a slight change in meaning

I like swimming vs. I like to swim

I like swimming - means I generally enjoy it.

I like to swim - can imply a specific instance.
