Today, we’re going to talk about everyday activities. We’ll learn vocabulary for common daily chores, practice talking about our routines, and use the simple present tense to describe these activities.

Vocabulary for Common Activities

Let’s begin by learning some vocabulary for common everyday activities. These words will help you describe what you do on a daily basis.

Cleaning:
To make something clean, like cleaning your room.

Cooking:
To prepare food, like making breakfast or dinner.

Shopping:
To buy things, like groceries or clothes.

Laundry:
To wash clothes.

Gardening:
To take care of plants in a garden.

Exercising:
To do physical activities to stay healthy.

Studying:
To learn or review something, like reading a book for school.

Working:
To do a job or task for money.

Exercise:
Match the activity with the correct description:

1. To prepare food.
2. To make something clean.
3. To do physical activities.

Talking About Daily Chores

Now, let’s talk about the daily chores you do at home.
Use the vocabulary we just learned to describe your activities.

◦ In the morning, I make my bed and prepare breakfast.
◦ After school, I do my homework and then help with cooking dinner.
◦ On weekends, I usually do the laundry and clean the house.
◦ In the evening, I relax by watching TV or reading a book

Example Dialogue:

A: What do you do in the morning?

B: I usually make my bed and prepare breakfast. What about you?

A: I get dressed and then go for a run.

Exercise:
Work with a partner to talk about your daily chores.
Use the vocabulary from the previous slide.

Example Dialogue:

A: Do you help with the cooking at home?

B: Yes, I help with dinner every evening. I also clean the dishes afterward.

Simple Present Tense for Routines

Let’s learn how to use the simple present tense to talk about your daily routines. The simple present tense is used to describe things you do regularly.

I clean:
I clean my room every day.

You cook:
You cook dinner every night.

He/She shops:
He shops for groceries on Saturdays.

We study:
We study English in the evening.

They work:
They work in the garden on weekends.

Exercise:
Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verb:

1. She ___ (clean) her room every day.
2. We ___ (cook) dinner together on weekends.
3. They ___ (study) English after school.

Practice Talking About Your Routine


Let’s practice talking about your daily routine using the simple present tense.
Think about what you do each day and try to describe it.

◦ In the morning, I wake up and take a shower.
◦ I go to work or school during the day.
◦ In the evening, I cook dinner and watch TV.
◦ Before bed, I read a book or check my phone.

Example Sentences:

◦ I clean my room every morning.
◦ She studies English in the afternoon.
◦ They work in the garden on Saturdays.

Exercise:
Describe your daily routine using the simple present tense. Start with what you do in the morning and go through the day.

Example:
In the morning, I wake up and make breakfast. After that, I go to work. In the evening, I cook dinner and watch TV before going to bed.

Listening Practice


Let’s listen to a short description of someone’s daily routine. Pay attention to how they use the simple present tense.

Role-Play Practice

Student B: I wake up at 6:30 and go for a jog. What about you?

Student A: I usually sleep until 7:00 and then have breakfast.

Take turns describing your daily routines and asking questions about each other’s activities.
