What is Summarizing?

Summarizing involves condensing a longer text into its main points, providing a brief overview of the essential ideas

It’s important to focus on the core message and eliminate unnecessary details.

Steps to Summarize

Read the Text Thoroughly:
Understand the overall meaning and the key points.

Identify the Main Ideas:
Look for the thesis, supporting arguments, and conclusions.

Condense the Information:
Write a concise version of the text, using your own words.

Ensure Accuracy:
Make sure the summary reflects the original text’s intent without adding your own opinions.

What is Paraphrasing?

Paraphrasing involves rephrasing someone else's ideas in your own words while maintaining the original meaning.

It’s a critical skill for avoiding plagiarism and demonstrating your understanding of the material.

Steps to Paraphrase

Read and Understand the Text:
Ensure you fully grasp the meaning.

Change the Structure:
Reorganize the sentence structure and word choice.

Use Synonyms:
Replace words with synonyms where appropriate, but keep the technical terms.

Compare with the Original:
Ensure that your paraphrase accurately conveys the original meaning without copying the structure or phrasing.
