1. Convert Active to Passive

Convert the following active sentences to passive voice:

1. The company will launch a new product next year.
2. Researchers discovered a new species in the Amazon rainforest.
3. The chef prepared a special dish for the guests.

2. Active or Passive?

Identify whether the following sentences are in active or passive voice:

1. The contract was signed by both parties.
2. They will announce the results tomorrow.
3. The homework has been completed.


1. Convert Active to Passive

Active: The company will launch a new product next year.
Passive: A new product will be launched by the company next year.

Active: Researchers discovered a new species in the Amazon rainforest.
Passive: A new species was discovered in the Amazon rainforest by researchers.

Active: The chef prepared a special dish for the guests.
Passive: A special dish was prepared for the guests by the chef.

2. Active or Passive?

1. The contract was signed by both parties. → Passive

2. They will announce the results tomorrow. → Active

3. The homework has been completed. → Passive

Rewrite the following sentences using passive voice with gerunds:

1. People enjoy telling him what to do.
2. They hate cleaning the house.


1. Passive with Modals

Active: You must complete the assignment by Monday.
Passive: The assignment must be completed by you by Monday.

Active: They can solve the problem quickly.
Passive: The problem can be solved quickly by them.

2. Passive with Infinitives

Active: We expect them to finish the project on time.
Passive: The project is expected to be finished by them on time.

Active: The manager wants the employees to attend the meeting.
Passive: The employees are wanted to attend the meeting by the manager.

3. Passive with Gerunds

Active: People enjoy telling him what to do.
Passive: He enjoys being told what to do.

Active: They hate cleaning the house.
Passive: The house is hated to be cleaned by them.

(Although it's more natural to say "They hate to clean the house.")
